Sehwag becomes fastest Indian centurion in ODIs

Hamilton, Mar 11 (PTI) Swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag eclipsed Mohammad Azharuddin to become the fastest Indian to score a hundred in an ODI when he hit a 60-ball 103 against New Zealand in the fourth one-dayer here today.
At an individual score of 97, Sehwag danced down the pitch and plundered a Daniel Vettori delivery over his head to bring up his hundred in the 18th over of the rain-truncated match to better Azharuddin by two balls.
The Indian is now has the seventh fastest hundred in ODI history, with Pakistan's Shahid Afridi topping the chart with his 37-ball 102 against Sri Lanka in Nairobi in 1996.
A former Indian captain, Azharuddin's 62-ball 108 had also come against New Zealand in Baroda in 1988. Sehwag's second fastest century (100 off 69 balls) is also against the Kiwis in Colombo in 2001
