India briefs envoys on Pakistan's links to Mumbai terror

New Delhi, Jan 6 (IANS) In an all-out diplomatic offensive, India Tuesday briefed envoys from across the world on the links between the Mumbai carnage and Pakistan in which Prime Minister Manmohan Singh says Islamabad is complicit.
Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon shared the material with envoys of permanent members of the Security Council and seven heads of mission of neighbouring countries.
Briefing the envoys in South Block, Menon impressed upon his interlocutors the need for the international community to mount sustained pressure on Pakistan to eliminate terror infrastructure in that country, official sources said.
After handing over the evidence to Pakistan, Menon had briefed envoys from Russia and 14 countries whose nationals were killed in the Nov 26 terror strikes later in the day.
In separate briefings, Secretary (West) Nalin Surie met envoys from European, African and Latin American countries and underlined the necessity for the world to speak in one voice against the scourge of terrorism flowing from Pakistan.
N. Ravi, Secretary (East) in the external affairs ministry, briefed envoys from Southeast Asian and central Asian countries about the Mumbai attacks.
Indian envoys in different world capitals are also briefing th country's governments on the implications of the Mumbai attacks for the world's fight against terrorism.
Singling out Pakistan's 'official agencies' for being complicit in the Mumbai assault, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Tuesday: 'Terrorism, on the other hand, is largely sponsored from outside the country, mainly Pakistan, which has utilised terrorism as an instrument of state policy.'
